Susan -- and I miss you when you don't blog for a week! How's that for a double standard? (I'm hoping to be a bit more consistent now, though who knows? Famous last words . . .)

Neither Cerrie nor Alex look like the stuff of nightmares, do they? Happily, there were lots of supportive comments also, including some from parents whose children have limbs similar to Cerrie's, appended to both of the articles I mention in this post.

The spoke guards I got from www.Coolhubcaps.com are beveled as well -
Has anyone found a good source for pediatric wheelchair gloves?

i have 3 kids and a bad back and after seeing how much they hated the constrictions of a normal crib/cot i can see the advantages for us adults , but what about the instinctive nest building that most wee kids show , or do you stop using it when they are able to move about . very interesting site :)

Marty,

I just stumbled upon your blog and I must say I found myself reading through most of your posts as I enjoy the detail and personal opinions that you have put forth in your blog. Particularly posts like your Disaboom one was very interesting. It doesn't look like you blog anymore as I haven't seen any updates for a while but anyway did you end up getting one of the Diestco style wheelchair and scooter bags? I saw your post on a different brand of bags a while back and I'm interested to see a more detailed outlook from you on these bags/covers/canopies.

I personally think it's an excellent idea. However, it shouldn't be liminted to people over 70. All adults should be welcome.

I'm a nurse in the United States. The obesity rates are sky rocketing here. Adult playgrounds would be a fun way. There is a difference between advising your patients to "You need to get more exercise." vs "Go out and play!"

I had a great experience with Rob over the course of a few months as we worked to fit my son (CP) with a Hase Pino semi-recumbent tandem.

I have since gone on to buy two recumbents of my own from him, become a shop regular, and started helping other disabled cyclists myself.

For those located more on the west coast, Lightfoot Cycles is an excellent resource for custom adapted cycles.

I bought these for my little toe walker and I have to say I LOVED them and so did he. It helped him with walking heel to toe, and made walking with him in a public place a wonderful experience- I never had to worry about him taking off because I heard every footstep! Great product:)

My husband's workforce counselor told him about Disaboom and asked him to sign up to look for jobs. Boy were we disappointed. The job listings come straight from Career Builder...and these are not jobs specifically for people with disabilities. it is just a straight feed with the exact same job listings.

The first thing I noticed was that the health info seemed to be copied from articles I had read elsewhere.

My husband signed up for some work-at-home info from Disaboom, and now he gets spam from them! The latest one was a letter from Rebecca Kingsley, supposedly the Work at Home Group Chief Editor at Disaboom. It was a spam letter trying to get him to sign up to make money doing online surveys! But it looks like she is trying to help..."don't get ripped off. This is the ONLY legitimate online survey company."

That wasn't even the worst one...but too much to tell.

My personal opinion is that the people running this website are vultures preying on vulnerable people who are desperately looking for help. If you aren't in that category, then that is fine...enjoy!

If you are disabled and looking for work, look elsewhere. Just sign up for CareerBuilder because you will have to anyway to apply for the jobs listed on Disaboom.

By the way, anyone can purchase content and set up an RSS feed from a job site...this site to me is a front for someone who thinks they found a new crop of fools to bilk. I wouldn't give them a penny for anything. I'm upset that they have my husband's contact information.

I did this Ikea mod too and love it. I added four 3M Scotch Removable Mounting Squares (clear) and it works great. The laptop stays FIRMLY in place and you can remove it with ease just by lifting it up.
